Just to let you know that an updated version of my Snape essay is now available on Scribbulus (http://scribbulus.com/ and go to issue 19)! It is a bit longer, with a couple of new points, but, I think, not changed all that much.

I wrote this about a year ago. It first came to me when 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' revealed that Snape lived in a run-down mill town in the north of England.
